Auto Insurance: Do you bill to auto insurance companies for treatment for injuries sustained in an accident?

Yes! If you carry a medical payment (med-pay) option on your auto insurance policy, we can bill for your treatment in our clinic. Contact your claims adjuster as to how much is available on your medical payments benefit and how much has been used to date. It is recommended that you keep track of the funds because when they are exhausted you are responsible for outstanding billing to your health providers.

You will need to provide us with

  • your claim number
  • adjuster’s name and contact information
  • insurance billing address
  • the date of accident

*We also require a doctor’s prescription (even if the insurance company does not) to prove massage therapy is medical necessity.

Health Savings Account: Will my Health Savings Account pay for Massage Therapy?

Yes! Once deductibles have been met,  most health savings plans will pay for massage therapy with a prescription from a doctor.

Health Insurance: Does my insurance cover massage therapy?

We can bill your insurance company for your massage if it is a covered benefit on your plan. These companies have plans available and offer coverage for 60 minutes of massage therapy 1x per week or month:  United Healthcare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado.

Sorry, Medicare does not cover our services for massage therapy even with a doctor’s prescription.

Health Insurance: How can I find out if massage therapy is a benefit on my insurance plan?

The best way to find out if massage is covered by your policy

  1. Call the customer service number located on your insurance ID card
  2. You will need to ask if massage is covered when provided by a massage therapist.

There are some plans that will cover massage only if provided by a physician, physical therapist or chiropractor.

C.A.M. plans (complimentary alternative medicine) therapies are available and allow a certain number of visits to include massage, acupuncture and chiropractic.

C.A.M. Plans require a doctor’s prescription or referral for massage therapy to prove that massage therapy is a medical necessity.

Workers Compensation: Do you bill to workman’s compensation companies?

Yes, we do, as long as we have authorization to provide treatment from your workman’s compensation caseworker. If you received a work related injury, you should file a claim with your employer or the company at fault, consult your physician and obtain a prescription for massage therapy (which we require to prove medical necessity). Then let your caseworker know that you need authorization for the prescribed massage.

We will need you to provide us with:

  • your claim or case number
  • adjuster’s name and contact information
  • insurance billing address
  • and the date of injury.

Financial Responsibility: What will my financial responsibility be?

Most health plans have you pay a co-payment at the time of service. You may have a deductible that must be met before the insurance company would begin paying. And some plans have a co-insurance amount rather than a co-payment. It is a good idea to get all this information from your insurance company so that you know what to expect when we send bills to your insurance.

Because we are a smaller business, we typically ask for your co-insurance amount to be paid up front as a co-payment may be. This is to cover our expenses such as paying the massage therapist while we wait for the insurance company to process our billing and remit payment.

We also have you sign a patient agreement upon your initial visit to our clinic which states that you are responsible for costs incurred by you for services that are denied or unpaid by your insurance company.
